Poland, Denmark inaugurate Baltic Pipe gas pipeline

Release Date:2022-09-28 17:10:20     Source:Xinhua

The Baltic Pipe natural gas pipeline was officially inaugurated on Tuesday by Poland's President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, as well as Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, who symbolically opened a valve at the Goleniow gas compressor station in northwestern Poland.

Duda said the Baltic Pipe project had been Poland's dream for decades and that the investment would diversify the country's gas supplies, strengthen its sovereignty and end its dependence on Russian gas.

"I am proud of the close cooperation of Denmark and Poland in this project," Frederiksen said.

The Baltic Pipe project has been set up in collaboration between the Danish gas and electricity transmission system operator Energinet and the Polish gas transmission system operator GAZ-SYSTEM. The pipeline is planned to be fully operational by Oct. 1 this year.
