State Grid Smart Grid Research Institute

[Basic Information]

The Smart Grid Research Institute funded by State Grid laid a foundation at the Future Technology City of Changping District, Beijing on the morning of June 9, 2011, which marked a new chapter of the construction of Strong and Smart Grid. As a smart grid equipment-manufacturing and technology-developing institute and a high-tech enterprise, the institute plays an important strategic role in enhancing State Grid’s leading place in the world’s smart grids and promoting economic and social development.

The Smart Grid Research Institute occupies a total area of 203,000 square meters, with 1 billion Yuan registered capital. The institute will initially set up five research bases of transformers, switches, smart power transmission and transformation technology, protection and automation, as well as new energy and new materials. A standardization test center will also be established to form a 5-Base-1-Center pattern, focusing on the research of 7 categories of products, such as high-power electronic devices, intelligent components, and new optical transformers. At the end of 2012, the institute is expected to complete 29 scientific research projects up to international advanced level.

The Smart Grid Research Institute is set to optimize and subdivide course establishment in a long run. It is planned to achieve 3 billion Yuan assets with over 3.5 billion yuan sales income at the end of the Twelfth Five-Year Plan. Currently, the institute has finished the planning proposal, the department setup, and the construction preparation. The preliminary work is being carried out smoothly.
