Xinjiang produces more coal despite epidemic

Release Date:2020-03-13 17:23:03     Source:Xinhua     Author:huaxia

The raw coal production in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region surged in the first two months this year despite the fact that the novel coronavirus epidemic had caused labor shortage and transport barriers.

The region produced 37.51 million tonnes of raw coal in January and February, up 17.7 percent year on year, according to the regional department of industry and information technology.

Charter flights, trains and buses were organized to bring back key employees of the sector, who resumed work after strict quarantine and observation measures.

The intelligent production also contributed to the surge.

The region prioritized the transport of coal, other necessities and materials for emergency response. Part of the coal was transported to the impoverished southern part of Xinjiang by train, which has ensured the heating supply for local people.
