East China's economic powerhouse Jiangsu Province reported its fastest year-on-year growth in electricity consumption in 27 months in June as its economy recovered from the COVID-19 epidemic.
Its total power consumption, a key barometer of economic activity, reached more than 54 billion kWh last month, up 7.3 percent year on year, the State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd. said.
Jiangsu saw power use decline in the first quarter of this year as the COVID-19 epidemic disrupted economic activities and witnessed a power use recovery in the second quarter as the epidemic waned.
Its power consumption fell 13.2 percent year on year in the January-March period before staging the first growth of the year in April and further rebounds in May and June.
In June, power consumption by the accommodation and catering sector and the transportation sector in Jiangsu recorded the first year-on-year growth of the year, according to Li Hu, head of the company's energy research department.
