South China's island province of Hainan has vowed to further promote clean energy vehicles in its public transport services this year, according to the ongoing 2020 World New Energy Vehicle Congress in the province.
Public transportation, including taxis, buses and government-used vehicles, will give preference to automobiles powered by clean energy, said Wang Jing, head of the provincial department of industry and information technology.
Hainan currently has 775 charging stations and 18,000 charging piles, including 8,790 public ones, facilitating the convenient use of electric cars within the province.
New energy vehicles account for 3.1 percent of the total number of cars in Hainan, 1.5 percentage points higher than the national average, said Wang, adding that favorable policies related to traffic management will be implemented for such vehicles.
According to the congress, the province aims to completely phase out the sales of conventional fuel-based vehicles by 2030.
