China's benchmark power coal price edges up

Release Date:2020-10-15 14:00:12     Source:XinHua     Author:huaxia

China's benchmark power coal price rose during the past two weeks.

The Bohai-Rim Steam-Coal Price Index (BSPI), a gauge of coal prices in north China's major ports, stood at 559 yuan (about 82.9 U.S. dollars) per tonne Wednesday, a rise of 2 yuan than the previous two weeks, according to the Qinhuangdao Ocean Shipping Coal Trading Market Co. Ltd.

Due to the National Day holiday, the supply and demand of coal in the Bohai Rim region were both weak, and the overall coal price was easy to rise but difficult to fall. Affected by the weakening short-term demand in downstream and the stability of the railway port operation, the increase of spot trading price was significantly slower than that before the National Day holiday, while the sharp increase of monthly long-term cooperative price contributed to the rise of the coal price.

Released by the Qinhuangdao Ocean Shipping Coal Trading Market Co. Ltd. every Wednesday, the BSPI is a leading indicator of China's coal prices.
