China will roll out measures to improve electric vehicle (EV) battery's performance amid low temperatures, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said on Tuesday.
The ministry will urge carmakers, battery producers and research institutes to seek technological breakthroughs, and speed up development and industrialization of all-weather car batteries, said Huang Libin, spokesperson for the ministry, at a press conference.
Efforts will also be made in standardizing related technologies, Huang said, adding that carmakers should provide better after-sales services.
These moves are in response to the recent complaints from some EV owners about battery capacity loss and shrinking driving ranges in cold weather.
Strong cold waves have swept across north China this winter, resulting in dramatic temperature drops.
