“Competition on Energy and Climate Change” Guidelines
Overview
Background
Climate change is a challenge facing humanity. Energy provides a driving force for human development and energy revolution is an important measure for mankind to combat climate change. The future of sustainability relies on the youth, especially those in the field of energy, who are expected to develop their global citizenship awareness, lifelong learning habit, inclusiveness and sharing spirit, teamwork capabilities. The COVID-19 pandemic cannot stop communications among the youth. The development of new energy calls for the youth’s urgent action. Moreover, the energy youth also play a key role in the race to net-zero carbon emissions and human development giving consideration to both economic development and energy transformation.
In this context, China University of Petroleum-Beijing is organizing the International Energy Youth Conference which is expected to be held in September 2022 in Beijing, as part of the series activities of the 7th BRICS Energy Ministers Meeting. The Competition on Energy and Climate Change (CECC) is a major event within the framework of the International Energy Youth Conference, aiming to encourage the global youth to get involved in topics on energy and climate change, to enlighten innovative thinking, to produce action plans and to foster insights about the green and low-carbonized energy transition to deal with climate change. We believe that the event will pool the wisdom of the energy youth from all over the world, which will contribute to a more beautiful and sustainable future for mankind.

Requirements
Who can participate?
CECC 2022 is open to teachers and students from universities and personnel from energy or environment related enterprises and public institutions under the age of 45. Team entries are also accepted.
Subjects
We invite submissions dealing with the following subjects that include but not limited to:
- Energy Economy
- Energy Finance
- Energy Trade
- Energy Environment and Climate Change
- Energy Strategy and Energy Safety
- Energy Market and Supervision
- Energy Policy
- Enterprise Low-Carbon Management
- Green Finance
- Carbon Asset Management
- Carbon Neutrality and Energy Transition
- Carbon Emission and Energy Big Data
- Energy System Analysis and Carbon Accounting
- Carbon Market and Carbon Trade
- Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction
- Climate Change and Low-Carbon Economy
Competition Tracks
The competition is divided into Academic Track, Practice Track and Voice Track for contestants to choose from.
a) Academic Track
Contestants submit an academic paper on relevant subjects.
b) Practice Track
① Research Report
Contestants conduct research on related subjects and submit a report which should include the research process, analysis and main conclusions. There is no requirement on format.
② Policy Proposal
Contestants determine their own subject for the policy proposal which should include background of the issue, detailed suggestions and supporting materials. There is no requirement on format.
③ Innovation / Entrepreneurial Design
Contestants design and produce reports on technological innovation, business model innovation and entrepreneurial practice and other aspects in the energy field. There is no requirement on format.
c) Voice Track
Contestants create and submit a short video (or pictures, report, etc.) elaborating the good practices adopted by their country or region in terms of clean and low carbon energy transition or climate and environment improvement, or expressing contestants’ own observations and viewpoints on these issues.
Specifications
All the submissions should specify the competition tracks they are entering. For academic papers, an abstract should be submitted prior to submission of the whole paper upon receiving the notification of acceptance from the organizer. For submissions to Practice Track and Voice Track, the complete work can be submitted directly.
Requirements for the submissions are as follows:
- All works should be presented in English.
- All works must be original and the topics shall be relevant.
- All submissions will be regarded as non-confidential, therefore, authors should complete the confidential inspection before submission.
For academic track:
- Papers that have been published or presented at academic meetings are not included in the solicitation.
- The length of the abstract must not exceed two pages (including title, author's name, affiliation, summary).
- The paper should be in Microsoft Word document, including title, author’s name, affiliation, abstract, keywords, main body, and references.
For Voice track:
- The length of the video should not exceed 5 minutes.
Evaluation & Awards
The evaluation committee, consisting of experts and professionals from world-famous universities, organizations and enterprises in the field of energy and environment, is responsible for the evaluation and selection of excellent works.
Winners will be invited to attend the 2022 CECC Award Ceremony.
Awards for each competition track:
a) Academic track
Best Academic Paper, for top academic paper author(s) from enterprises & institutions and from student contestants, who will receive 10,000RMB and Award Certificate respectively.
Excellence Award, for the top 20% of the total entries within this track, winners will receive 2,000 RMB and Award Certificate for each piece of work.
b) Practice track
Best
Practice Award, top
one winner will receive 10,000RMB
and Award Certificate;
Excellence Award, covering less than 20% of the total entries
within this track, winners will receive 2,000 RMB
and Award Certificate for
each piece of work.
Outstanding Performance Award, covering less than 20% of the total entries within this track, winners will receive 1,000 RMB and Award Certificate for each piece of work.
c) Voice track
Best Voice Award, the winner will receive 10,000RMB and Award Certificate;
Excellence Award, covering less than 20% of the total entries within this track, winners will receive 2,000 RMB and Award Certificate for each piece of work.
Outstanding Performance Award, covering less than 20% of the total entries within this track, winners will receive 1,000 RMB and Award Certificate for each piece of work.
Other Awards:
Best Idea Award, the winner will receive 1,000RMB and Award Certificate.
Best Organization Award, the winner will receive Award Certificate.
Schedule and Registration
Important dates
- Registration:

- Abstract submission for Academic Track:

- Preliminary review result notification:
before April 30
- Complete work submission:
before May 31 (works that competing in practice track and sound track can be submitted directly)
- Result announcement:
before August 15
