Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday that energy of China-Dominican Republic cooperation has been rapidly released after years of accumulation.
Wang made the remarks at a joint press conference with Dominican Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas, saying that the establishment of China-Dominican Republic diplomatic ties has opened a new chapter in the history of relations between the two countries.
The establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties is in line with the international law and guidelines of international relations as well as principles established by UN General Assembly resolutions, said Wang.
It is also in line with the fundamental and long-term interests of the Dominican people, he added.
Noting that China and the Dominican Republic share a long history of friendly exchanges, Wang said after decades of accumulation, the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries has become a reality when conditions are ripe.
In the past four months, the two countries have achieved initial results in various fields with cooperation energy being released continuously, said Wang.
As two fastest-growing countries in East Asia and Latin America, China and the Dominican Republic are believed to work together to benefit their people, facilitate development of the Dominican Republic and inject new impetus into the cooperation between China and the Latin America, he added.
Wang said he discussed with Minister Vargas about next steps in the development of bilateral relations and reached broad consensus.
The two sides agreed on the consistent adherence to the one-China policy, which is a fundamental precondition of establishing ties and a political base for developing bilateral relations.
The two sides agreed that no vacillation is allowed when it comes to the one-China policy and no one or no force is allowed to destroy it.
The two countries also agreed to enhance exchanges at all levels, especially giving a full play to the leading role of head-of-state diplomacy.
The Chinese side welcomes the visit of Dominican President Danilo Medina to China scheduled within this year for jointly planning the blueprint of development of bilateral relations.
The two sides vowed to take the opportunity of jointly building the Belt and Road to continuously promote practical cooperation in all fields so as to benefit both peoples.
The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation at multilateral platforms such as the UN Security Council, the Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and the Forum of East Asia-Latin America Cooperation to jointly safeguard international peace and security as well as legitimate interests of developing countries.
