Chongqing boosts scientific cooperation with EU

The 2019 China-EU Research and Innovation Stakeholders Tour was recently held in Chongqing to introduce the scientific research plans and policies facing scientific research institutions, technology parks, universities, and companies in Chongqing.

Philippe Vialatte, head of the Science and Technology Section of the EU delegation to China, introduced Horizon 2020, an EU framework program for research and innovation that provides €80 billion ($90 billion) of funding from 2014 to 2020.

Chinese researchers can join the program independently or with other juridical entities from EU or Horizon 2020 related countries to work together in scientific innovation.

Koen Sizoo, consul general of the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Chongqing, said that the Netherlands wishes to achieve innovations in agriculture, food, creative industries, chemical industries, energy, high-tech systems, and horticulture with Chongqing.

During the past two years, Chongqing's five projects involving modern agriculture, advanced manufacturing, energy science, and information technology have received national fund support, two of which was based on their cooperation with Belgium and Portugal.

The jointly implemented projects are an integration of scientific and technological resources between China and the EU, and provide opportunities for Chinese scientific researchers to join high-level international research teams.
