Iran connected its national power grid to that of Iraq on Friday, Tasnim news agency reported.
The power grids of the neighboring countries were synchronized in a ceremony with the participation of Iranian energy minister and the Iraqi deputy minister of electricity, the report said without further details.
The move is aimed to help Iraq reduce its power outages, it added.
The agreement to connect the two countries' power grids reached earlier this year.
With the synchronization of the national grids, the two countries would witness the increase of electricity exchanges, Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Homayoun Ha'eri told Tasnim.
Iran is an exporter of electricity to neighboring countries.
