Kenya is set to host the global off-grid solar forum and expo from Feb. 18 to 20, 2020, organizers said on Tuesday.
The biennial conference organized by GOGLA, the global association for the off-grid solar energy industry and the World Bank's Lighting Global Program, will bring together over 800 participants and 65 exhibitors from across the world.
Patrick Tonui, East Africa representative, GOGLA, told journalists in Nairobi that the forum will provide a platform for off-grid solar products manufacturers, investors and distributors an opportunity to review the latest technology in the solar sector.
"The delegates will analyze the correct policy environment that will enable government and development partners to accelerate access to clean solar energy," Tonui said.
"The 2020 edition will take place in Kenya which is one of the countries where off-grid solar solutions have really taken root," he added.
According to Tonui, the sub-Saharan region has the highest sales of off-grid solar products with east Africa being the key market.
"The East African nations were one of the places that identified access to clean energy as a key pillar of social economic development," he noted.
He added that Kenya has integrated off-grid solar solutions in its energy mix by offering tax breaks on imports of solar equipment.
