Egypt's non-petroleum exports reached 21.3 billion U.S. dollars in the first 10 months of 2019, marking a 2.3-percent increase compared with the same period last year, the Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry said in a statement on Thursday.
Egypt's imports also declined by 3 percent in the same period, registering 57.7 billion dollars compared with 59.4 billion dollars in the equivalent period last year, according to the statement.
"The increase of exports positively reflected on the deficit of balance of trade, which declined by 6 percent," it pointed out.
Ismail Gaber, head of the General Organization of Export and Import Control, explained that Egypt's exports of foodstuff, agricultural crops, garments and engineering products saw a noticeable growth in the first 10 months of 2019.
He added that 49.6 percent of Egypt's non-oil exports in this period went to the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Italy and Britain, while 46.4 percent of the country's imports came from China, the United States, Italy, Germany, Russia and Turkey.
