Iranian companies have contributed to the improvement of domestic thermal power efficiency and output, Mohsen Tarztalab, head of Iran's Thermal Power Plants Holding Company, was quoted as saying by Financial Tribune daily on Saturday.
The average efficiency of thermal power plants in Iran has reached 38.1 percent which conforms to the global average, Tarztalab said.
"Conversion of single-cycle power (gas-powered) plants to combined cycles can help raise the efficiency to 40 percent," he added.
Thermal plants account for 80 percent of Iran's total power generation which amounts to 84,000 megawatts, he said.
After negotiations with the East Asian firms in 2018 to attract investment to decommission decrepit power plants failed because of the pressures under U.S. anti-Iran sanctions, the Iranian government proposed development of the projects to the domestic companies.
