Israel launches a solar energy system plan on rooftops of public buildings at a cost of 100 million new shekels (about 29 million U.S. dollars), the Israeli Ministry of Energy announced on Monday.
The fund will be allocated through a loan fund, established by Israel's National Lottery, as part of a wider program set up by the ministry, the Federation of Local Authorities and the lottery to accelerate the implementation of renewable energy in local authorities.
The new fund is expected to help advance the field of renewable energy and utilize the roofs of the local authorities' buildings to generate green electricity and additional revenue to the local authorities.
Israeli Minister of Energy Yuval Steinitz said "the fund will help Israel increase the volume of electricity generation from renewable energy, enable clean electricity generation and increase local government revenues."
