Israel and the United States will invest 6.4 million U.S. dollars in seven joint clean energy projects, the Israeli Ministry of Energy announced Thursday.

The projects, partly funded by the Ministry, the Israel Innovation Authority and the U.S. Department of Energy, cover the areas of biomass, fuel cells, natural gas, water-energy nexus and energy efficiency.

The remaining cost of 9 million dollars will be shared by the companies selected for funding.

The first project to be funded deals with electric vehicle charged through energy storage system.

Another project develops a novel solution to optimize energy efficiency and improve the quality of compressed air systems for the food and beverage industry.

The third one develops a hydrogen powered vertical take-off and landing drone for long endurance and zero emission.

Other projects deal with efficient power supply for grid connected electronic devices, low cost and high efficiency solid waste fuelled electricity generation system, and an integrated irrigation and energy management system.

The funds will be invested under the Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Energy program.

The BIRD program, founded in 2009, works to encourage and facilitate cooperation between U.S. and Israeli companies in a wide range of technology sectors and offers funding for selected projects.
