President of Mozambique Filipe Nyusi inaugurated on Friday an electricity substation and its connecting voltage line in Marrupa, northern province of Niassa, which will feed three local districts connecting 300 local communities into the national grid.
The beneficiaries should make use of the electricity access to generate wealth, and accelerate production activities for developing the sectors including agriculture, industry, and tourism, said the president in a mass rally after the inauguration.
"Now that we have electric power, it means that we will be able to pump water from rivers for irrigation. Electric power is here not only to lighten our houses but to help us produce. This energy is here to help us work and work," the president told the population of Murrupa in the rally.
The president encouraged local farmers to increase production because local mills boosted by electricity will need more agriculture products for processing, thus the industry will grow and help to develop the whole province.
The project, funded by the government and cooperation partners, is part of the government's "Energy for All" program launched in 2019.
The infrastructure is also expected to attract investments since the region has rich mineral resources such as precious stones, gold and limestone.
