Iran's Ministry of Petroleum announced Wednesday that the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country since two weeks ago has not affected Iran's oil and gas production.
"Despite a decline in transportation and consumption (of gas and oil) inside the cities (of Iran), it (COVID-19) has had no effect on Iran's oil production and we are producing as before," said Minister of Petroleum Bijan Namdar Zanganeh on Wednesday, according to Press TV.
Zanganeh made the remarks before departing to Vienna to attend a meeting of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
Also, deputy head of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Farrokh Alikhani said Wednesday that "the production and distribution of Iranian oil and gas is carried out without any effect from the virus outbreak," according to the report.
Since the initial announcement of infections with COVID-19 in Iran, the illness has affected 2,922 people across the country, 92 of whom have died.
