A plane carrying a large amount of medical supplies, which departed from Beijing, landed at Islamabad International Airport at 8:00 pm local time on the evening of April 26. Through this flight, the first batch of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) anti-epidemic medical supplies donated by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) to the Pakistani government successfully arrived in Pakistan. These medical supplies included more than 400,000 surgical masks, more than 8,000 sets of protective clothing, thousands of protective masks, medical caps, shoe covers and so on.

Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) received the first batch of donated supplies, on behalf of the Pakistani government, at the airport, and held a brief Receiving Ceremony. Receiving Ceremony was presided over by Mr. Zhang Jun, DCEO of CSAIL in Pakistan. Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Yao Jing Pakistan’s Energy Minister, Mr. Omar Ayub Khan, Chairman CPEC Authority, Mr. Lt. Gen. Asim Saleem Bajwa (Retd.) also participated in the event.

On the scene of the receiving ceremony, Mr. Zhang Jun first briefly introduced the basic information of the donation of materials and transportation, and, on behalf of CTG, expressed condolences to the Pakistani government and people on the loss of valuable lives due to this pandemic. He expressed that a number of CTG energy projects in Pakistan have been included in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework, which guarantees uninterrupted power supply to Pakistan during the epidemic period and provides strong support for the local fight against the epidemic. When the outbreak was severe in Wuhan, China, our Chinese and Pakistani employees in Pakistan raised 13,000 RMB in cash to support Wuhan. As the epidemic in Pakistan became more and more serious, CTG returned the favor of the Pakistani brothers. We will donate about 70 percent of this material to Pakistani institutions and hospitals to enhance their resilience. The remaining materials will be donated directly to the four communities where our project is located, so that the surrounding people can feel the warmth from CTG during the epidemic prevention.

Ambassador Mr. Yao Jing said in his speech that we believe that with the strong leadership of the Pakistani government and with the active efforts of the Pakistani people, Pakistan will surely achieve the final victory in the prevention and control of the epidemic.

On April 21, in Beijing, CTG held a grand donation ceremony, in which Medical Equipment and Medical Supplies, including ventilators, monitors, medical protective clothing, surgical masks, etc. with volume of about 170 cubic meters and weight of around 13 tons, were officially handed over to Pakistan. As per the plan, the shipment is being airlifted to Pakistan in two batches of chartered flights, with the second scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on April 29, 2020.
