The COVID-19 pandemic has not affected the preparatory construction of Block 7 of the thermal power plant in Tuzla, some 120 km north of Sarajevo. The power utility, Elektroprivreda of BiH, will allocate the advance of 214 million KM (123 million U.S. dollars) to partnering construction companies by the end of this month, Senad Salkic, executive director for Capital Investment of Elektroprivreda of BiH, told the Dnevni Avaz newspaper on Wednesday.
The construction of Block 7, a 450 MW thermal power generator, is one of the biggest investments in the recent BiH history worth 1.4 billion KM (810 million U.S. dollars). It is one of the strategic projects ongoing in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) under the Belt and Road Initiative and China and Central and Eastern European countries (CEECs) cooperation.
Salkic said that the pandemic did not cause delays in the construction itself. Local companies have finished more than 80 percent of the 12-month preparatory construction which started in November 2019.
He added that the Elektroprivreda of BiH hopes for the improvement of epidemiology situation before handing over the construction site to related Chinese companies.
