Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has approved an investment agreement with the Abu Dhabi-headquartered energy company Masdar to build the country's first wind farm, the country's justice ministry said on Wednesday.
The 500 MW project will attract 600 million U.S. dollars of foreign direct investment, according to the ministry.
Uzbekistan has also agreed with Masdar on the construction of a 100 MW solar power plant. The two future plants will both be built in the central Navoi region.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development said this week that it will provide an equity bridge loan of up to 60 million dollars for this solar photovoltaic project.
The World Bank said that its International Finance Corporation and the Asian Development Bank will provide a financial package of up to 60 million dollars for the solar power plant.
Early this year, Uzbekistan announced a national Low-Carbon Energy Strategy, under which it plans to deploy up to 30 GW of electricity using solar, hydro, wind and nuclear energy.
