Tanzania's state-run electricity utility is engaging the private sector in the generation of wind energy, an official said on Wednesday.
Stephen Byabato, the East African nation's Deputy Minister for Energy, told parliament in the capital Dodoma that some investors were implementing wind energy projects in Singida region in collaboration with the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO).
"Electricity to be generated from the wind energy will boost power production in the country," Byabato told the House when he responded to special seats Member of Parliament, Jesca Kishoa.
The lawmaker had asked the government to explain when wind energy will start generating electricity in Singida region located in central Tanzania.
Byabato said investors were in different stages of implementing about three wind energy projects in Singida region that are scheduled to be completed between 2023 and 2027.
He said TANESCO has started negotiating with the private wind energy companies to sell electricity to the power utility.
