Serbia and Egypt agreed on Wednesday to establish a strategic partnership and expand bilateral cooperation in diverse areas, especially in grain and cereal trade.

This was announced in a joint declaration adopted by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and visiting president of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

El-Sisi, the first Egyptian president to visit Serbia in 35 years, arrived here on Tuesday for a three-day official visit which has so far resulted in the signing of 13 bilateral agreements and memorandums of understanding between the two countries.

The declaration on the establishment of strategic partnership covers bilateral and international issues as well as areas of defense and security, free trade, agriculture, energy and energy diversification, environmental protection, culture, media and education, health and social protection, and youth and sports.

Vucic said the two sides have agreed to "accelerate cooperation", especially in bilateral trade where they see a significant positive trend this year.

El-Sisi highlighted the amity between the Serbian and Egyptian people and said the two countries should boost economic cooperation in response to conflicts and uncertainties that burden the global economy. "This is a new vision of our future cooperation."

He said they have discussed political cooperation, as well as collaboration in science, business, investments and agriculture.
