Iranian oil minister said on Monday that the country has become self-sufficient in constructing oil and gas refineries.
Javad Owji made the remarks in an address to the inauguration ceremony of the first part of the second phase of the Abadan refinery development project in the southeastern Iranian province of Khuzestan, according to Shana News Agency affiliated with the Iranian oil ministry.
He noted that the project was implemented with 1.1 billion U.S. dollars in investments, and would help to increase the refinery's daily gasoline and diesel production from 10 million liters to 14 million litters and 15 million liters to 18 million liters respectively.
The minister added that 31 semi-finished projects were put into operation in the current Iranian calendar year, which will end on March 20, and 5 billion U.S. dollars of foreign investments were attracted to the country's oil and gas fields in the past 12 months.
Owji said Iran is currently producing over 3 million barrels of oil per day, adding that two more refineries will become operational in the new Iranian calendar year to boost the country's refining capacity.
