Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed with visiting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan the cooperation on the Armenian nuclear power plant, TASS news agency reported on Friday.

Welcoming Pashinyan at an international forum on the development of the nuclear industry in Moscow, Putin noted the importance of nuclear power for Armenia.

"As you mentioned at the forum, nuclear power accounts for about 30 percent of Armenia's electricity generation. This is a significant share," he said.

Putin also highlighted the steady development of Russia-Armenia relations, pointing to record-high trade turnover last year.

"According to our statistics, bilateral trade reached 11.7 billion U.S. dollars in 2024, accounting for 34 percent of Armenia's foreign trade. Cooperation is progressing in all areas," he said.

For his part, Pashinyan emphasized the growing global recognition of nuclear power as a clean energy source and its importance for Armenia.

Armenia is also exploring small modular reactor projects and maintains active dialogue with Russia on this front, including close cooperation with Rosatom, he said.
