The Senate of Kazakhstan's Parliament has approved 22 roadmaps outlining technological and compensatory measures to reduce carbon emissions, the Kazinform news agency reported Wednesday.

At a carbon regulation roundtable, Kazakh Deputy Minister of Energy Bakytzhan Ilyas highlighted efforts to adopt the best available technologies, including carbon capture, utilization and storage, to mitigate the energy sector's environmental impact.

The current national carbon quota distribution plan for 2022-2025 targets an annual emissions reduction of 1.5 percent. The draft plan for 2026-2030 foresees a further cut of between 10.2 and 22.9 percent from the 2025 level.

Developing a carbon regulation system will help Kazakhstan meet its international commitments under the Paris Agreement while improving the country's energy efficiency and environmental safety, Ilyas said.
