Release Date:2025-12-26 17:48:11     Source:Xinhua

Vietnam will for the first time pilot the allocation of greenhouse gas emission quotas for 2025-2026 as part of efforts to build an emission management framework for compulsory implementation nationwide, the Vietnam News Agency reported Wednesday.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment proposed setting total quotas at 1.6 to 2 percent below projected emissions for thermal power plants, 3.8 to 4.4 percent for crude steel producers, and 4 to 4.5 percent for clinker producers during the pilot period.

The pilot scheme will run through 2027 before mandatory quota management takes effect nationwide across all sectors from 2028, according to the report.
