ASEAN leaders have underscored energy security, food security,
and the safety of ASEAN nationals worldwide during the 48th ASEAN Summit
and related meetings, ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn said here on Monday.
Speaking at the ASEAN Secretariat, Kao highlighted the key outcomes of the summit, which concluded in the Philippines on Friday.
On energy security, Kao said the regional leaders called for the maintenance of stable
and reliable supply chains
and the accelerated transition toward renewable energy.
Kao noted that leaders pushed for the swift ratification of the ASEAN Petroleum Security Agreement. They also emphasized the operationalization of the ASEAN Power Grid to facilitate cross-border electricity trade
and ensure affordable energy access across the bloc's 11 member states.
On food security, Kao said leaders urged for open
and predictable markets, strengthened supply chain connectivity,
and more effective monitoring of regional food reserves.
Kao said that the leaders issued a statement on the Middle East crisis, outlining measures to strengthen ASEAN resilience in energy, food, finance, supply chains,
