Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi witnessed on Tuesday the inauguration of several power stations across the country, including one in the New Administrative Capital City near the capital of Cairo.
The Egyptian president attended the televised inauguration ceremony of the new capital's power station, and inaugurated two other stations in Beni Suef and Kafr el-Sheikh provinces via video conferences.
The three power plants, built by Germany's giant Siemens corporation, will add 14.4 gigawatts of power generation capacity to Egypt's national grid, which is enough to supply 40 million people with reliable electricity.
Sisi also inaugurated through video conference the second phase of the wind power plant of Jebel al-Zayt in the Red Sea province as well as four substations in Cairo, Beheira, Minya and Aswan provinces.
Egyptian Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker said at the ceremony that the total cost of power projects in Egypt since mid-2014 has reached about 515 billion pounds (about 28.8 billion U.S. dollars).
Egyptians used to complain about recurrent power outages before the recent upgrade of the country's national grid in the past four years.
