Energy prices for households are set to go up in Slovakia starting in January 2019, said the head of the Slovak Office for the Regulation of Network Industries (URSO) Lubomir Jahnatek on Tuesday.
According to Jahnatek, the price of electricity will increase by 5.66 percent on average, that of gas by 5.67 percent, and the price of heating by 4.70 percent,
"Given the extraordinary year-on-year increases in commodity prices on the market, to be exact, increases in prices of electricity by 27.44 percent, gas by 24.18 percent and emission allowances by 222 percent, we have managed to provide Slovak households and small entrepreneurs with optimum and fair energy prices for 2019," said the URSO head.
He added: "If, for example, the Office had accepted the proposals of electricity suppliers to the fullest, the price of electricity for Slovak households would have increased by 13.86 percent."
Regarding average monthly energy costs, households will pay on average between 0.70-2 euro (0.80-2.28 U.S. dollars) more for electricity, around 0.90 euro (1.02 U.S. dollars) more for gas and some 1.85 euro (2.1 U.S. dollars) more for heating supplies.
URSO also stressed that the aforementioned price list sets the maximum prices that electricity, gas, heating suppliers can't exceed.
