The second Southern-U.S. China Summit will be held Saturday in Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States, bringing scholars, academic leaders and business representatives to discuss education, energy, health care and investment.
Co-hosted by Houston Tsinghua Alumni Association and Peking University Alumni, the 2019 Southern-U.S. China Summit is dedicated to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 40th anniversary of the establishment of China-U.S. diplomatic relations.
Dong Wang, president of Houston Tsinghua Alumni Association, said that alumni from Tsinghua and Peking universities are committed to China-U.S. exchanges and cooperation and have made contributions to the relations between the two countries.
"Given the current context of China-U.S. relationship, it's even more meaningful for Tsinghua and Peking universities alumni to join hands and host the event," he said.
The one-day event will feature panel presentations and discussions with the topics of career development and entrepreneurship, education and lifelong learning, contemporary and future energy, real estate and investment, as well as health and medical care.
Tsinghua University was established in 1911, featuring the motto of "Self-Discipline and Social Commitment" and the spirit of "Actions Speak Louder than Words". As one of China's most prestigious and influential universities, Tsinghua is committed to cultivating global citizens who will thrive in today's world and become tomorrow's leaders, according to the university's website.
Peking University was founded in 1898, originally known as the Imperial University of Peking. It was the first national university covering comprehensive disciplines in China, and has been a leading institution of higher education in China since its establishment. The university's traditional emphasis on patriotism, progress, democracy, and science, together with its educational standards of diligence, precision, factualism, and innovation, have been passed down from generation to generation, says the university's website.
