Production of natural gas in Al Risha gas field of Jordan increased after the drilling of a new well, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on Monday.
The new well has daily production capacity of 7 million cubic feet (mcf) of natural gas, increasing the production of the Risha Field to 16 mcf, which accounts for 5 percent of the kingdom's daily needs of gas of around 330 mcf.
The discovery of the well was a result of "the efforts and expertise of Jordanian employees working at the National Petroleum Company (NPC)," Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala Zawati said in a statement.
Maher Hijazin, NPC's chairman, said in the statement that the company is currently preparing for digging a new well soon.
The Natural Resources Authority has drilled 45 wells since the NPC's establishment in 1995, of which 15 are operational.
