Tunisia signed on Tuesday a new agreement with the Italian oil and gas company Eni to renew the contract for the transfer of Algerian gas to Italy through the Tunisian gas pipeline.
The agreement was inked between Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni, and Slim Feriani, Tunisian industry minister, in the presence of Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed.
According to the agreement, Eni will operate the pipeline for the next 10 years through its subsidiary Trans Tunisian Pipeline Company.
"About 5.25 percent of the gas transferred from Algeria to Italy will be used for Tunisia, amounting to about 174.21 million U.S. dollars annually," Feriani told the press after the signing ceremony held in the capital Tunis.
Eni also committed itself to maintaining equipment at a cost of about 160 million dollars during the next 10 years.
