Burkina Faso will host a summit on September 13 in Ouagadougou to discuss the use of solar energy to foster social and economic development in the G5 Sahel countries, official source told Xinhua Friday here in Ouagadougou.
Jointly organized with the African Development Bank (AfDB), the summit will gather heads of state from Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Mauritania and Chad, the source said.
The summit is an opportunity for experts to present the Desert to Power Initiative of AfDB intended to develop and provide 10 GW of solar energy by 2025 and supply 250 million people with green electricity, including in some of the world's poorest countries.
Alongside the summit, a roundtable of the states' ministers in charge of energy with donors is expected to analyze priority actions.
