An innovation station for the China's city of Daqing, a famous oil city in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang, was established in Houston in the U.S. state of Texas on Friday.

The station is jointly operated by Daqing Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone and WE Innovation Group Inc. of the United States.

Miqiang Sun, Daqing High-tech Business Incubator director, told Xinhua the U.S. innovation station works as a bridge between Daqing and its U.S. partner.

"Firstly, it will become a window for Daqing to showcase itself," Sun said, adding Daqing is eager to promote its own competitive industries to the world while introduce advanced technology and innovation to the city.

With development in the past 40 years, Sun said, it's time for Daqing to transform from a traditional oil and gas city to a technology-focused city with sustainable development ability.

"Only technology and advanced industry can improve economy," he said.

At the opening ceremony, Amy Shen, founder and CEO of WE Innovation Group Inc., said there is high demand in both the United States and China to collaborate in the field of technology and innovation.

"We'd like to connect the East to the West, building more collaborations between the two countries," she said.

Before the opening ceremony, representatives from five U.S. companies introduced their businesses and unique technologies to the Daqing delegation.

With a population of about 3 million, Daqing is known as an oil city and has experienced phenomenal boom since oil was discovered there in 1959. The name of Daqing literally means "great celebration."
